A person at leneros.com has posted some of the images saying that the images actually are that of Internet Explorer 8 Alpha. The forum is in Spanish language so it may be difficult for some to understand. Here is the translated version of what he writes-
Internet Explorer 8 goes the development of the new explorer of Microsoft. At the moment, one knows that the greater priority of the company is to implement all the supports of RSS, CSS and AJAX within this new project.
In addition, also they have commented which this navigator will include support for the microformats, small labels written in code HTML that can be interpreted of different form, or like dates of a calendar or information of contact. The support for these microformats already was announced for the new version of Firefox, reason why Microsoft also will include it not to be behind its main competitor.
In fact, this new version of Internet Explorer is an answer towards Firefox 3, since Microsoft does not want that the navigator of Mozilla to them continues taking terrain. At the moment, the date of launching is not known, but Chris Wilson has announced that, at least, needs a year more development or even something more, reason why surely will be necessary to wait for near a year and means to be able to enjoy this new IE.
Here are some of the fake images of Internet Explorer 8 Alpha

Update:As it looks it’s totally faked it has been photoshopped by someone who has simply combined Microsoft Office 2007 interface with that of Internet Explorer 7
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Fake. Quite obviously fake.
They took the Office 2007 layout and modded it to look like Internet Explorer but they forgot to remove things like Word count and all the Office-only stuff at the bottom + the logos/icons/bars etc. are somewhat misaligned in some places.
Does it really matter what IE 8 looks like? Or what the featureset is? No matter what features it claims to have, those features will inevitably be broken, bugged, mixed with MS proprietary bullsh*t, badly designed, clunky, and STILL vastly inferior to Firefox and other browser products. MS should give up.
Totally Fake. MS Office + MS IE 7 = Very bad fake of MS IE 8. . .
I didnt even see that to know it was fake. Look at the tabs, and the webpages they are on. They dont even match up.
Whoever did this is obviously quite retarded and looking for attention to be “the First” of another crappy release of Internet Exploder.
As much as I want this to be real, I am of the almost certain opinion that this is fake.
http://bink.nu/Article10446.bink
yes, fake.
sad that diggers are stupid enough to think otherwise.
Hideous, and due to it’s incredible ugliness I would not be surprised if they were real… It’d be so Microsoft-esque to release any ugly browser that *still* didn’t meet web standards.
Even if they are fake, chances are IE8 won’t be far off.
Also note how Windows is misspelled WIndows (WIndows Live Web Player).
Aha - I agree - I didn’t even notice that from the thumb nails, just the whacky size of the images told me straight away, from a design stand point it is basically suicide for IE lol; but leaving the word stuff in at the bottom, god its funny!
Oh and the sites that should have a horizontal scroll bar don’t -
http://www.danieldevine.co.uk/blog - check a blog
Still looks like crap… keep up the good work, guys!
Fake.
Agree with the person above, definitely fake.
Office’s interface is being used in other programs, so it’s not too far-fetched
Agreed. Could be believable by the unskilled, but obviously fake. Could have been convincible with a little more effort.
Or perhaps MS is looking at IE becoming the tool for both web browsing *and* entry level document creation? It may be faked, but I wouldn’t count on it. This is exactly the direction I would expect MS to go in. It is the only step they can take to both protect their market share in the browser and office software market.
IE is way behind.. by the time 8 comes out, FireFox will have had all its features and more!
Everything Flint said, and capitalization typo in the third image make this an easy FAKE. Why would there be a save button in IE? or Undo and Redo? Still…these are good ideas. But the only way Microsoft is going to save its IE franchise in the next decade or two is to go open-source. That’s how Firefox is gaining so quickly, and that’s how IE will fix a lot of its problems. And if open-source doesn’t work, then switch developers
Might as well see how many visitors I get from this fake shit…
Definitely fake but it is a good concept. Hard to believe that Microsoft would make something that good looking and, theoretically, efficient. I doubt with all the shiny gadgets and buttons that many computers would be able to handle the computing, something microsoft is acutely aware of.
Looks like photoshop to me.
HAhahahahahaa
So Freacking Fake..
i cant believe he fell for it
OWND
@Flint
Good point, but remember Microsoft suck at UI design.
This is fake
Um.. What’s with the Google-titles on all tabs?
I think that this is a fake… as Flint says this is the word layout..
Totally photoshoped!! fake!
Obviously photoshopped. I had a good laugh there for a sec,
They looking Fake to me.
ROFL. by far the worst fakes in the world. again proving my point that people who speak spanish as their native language are pretty dumb.
Fake, but plausible… It certainly seems like this is the direction M$ is going…
@Flint
That’s what microsoft does o.O. And if these are alpha screens (which I can easily see them being), they would work on functionality first, and mess with the layout later. What’s more likely, them not getting around to removing the things that are from Office, or someone making a fake with random details that are easily caught?
I’ve used other MS products, I’m willing to be these ARE alpha screens.
Flint is right - they’ve just merged IE7 and Office 2007 screenshots. Poor show.
I agree, this is obviously fake.
The ribbon bar has too much text in it. If MS were going to use the ribbon bar from Office it would have more buttons… you know… like Office.
I also don’t see why they would change their entire nav bar section to look ugly, that hardly makes sense.
Not to mention all the tabs are mislabeled… the screen is displaying channel9 and the tabs say “Google”
Completly fake they are not event high quality photoshops, although I have to say the approach is quite good from a User Experience point of view… and might work for a fresh approach to browse the internet, some usability issues but overall the concept is original.
I wonder if anyone from Microsoft might care about this kind of approaches… if anyone is interested I will go for building a prototype of a browser like this in WPF and see how far can it go, having contextual browsing will be amazing….
Annoying blue theme? Check. Excessive crap represented on the browser visually by default? Check. Must be internet explorer…
So fake
this thing looks like a toy for children… all those baloon ploc ploc blub blub ugly bad designed (= designed by geeks) icons… in other words, the traditional M$ geeky design… M$ if falling in free fall like a rock. I never saw a company so lost as M$ is now.
Internet Exploder has now just 65% of share. In one year it will have 50% or less. Then, M$ will launch this crap, but it will be too late.
Fake.
IE8 should be Mozilla based so IE can finally be ended.
Not only fake, marked as mockups by the original author on Channel 9 (who is not a Microsoft employee).
Def. Fake. Onecare would not be ‘included’ in a tab because symantec and norton and the other AV companies would go nuts. The word artifacts are also funny - I really want to see what a website would look like in reading view. IMO this ribbon UI would be a step backwards from what we have today: I like the minimal ‘two line’ setup that IE7 has, and this is like double that size.
So embarrassingly fake. The tab titles all say “Google” and the window titles all say “Channel 9″ even though the content changes in each “screenshot!”
You gotta be kiddin me!
You expect us to believe this crap.
This has got to be one of the worst photoshops ever.
In addition to what flint said, the save/undo/redo buttons on the title bar is still visible from word. AND the window title, tab name, and content in the images dont matchup at all.
Yep, IE 8 could very well adopt the Office 2007 UI, but the status bar gives it all away. It’s a clone of the UI, even with the “user is currently typing” icon intact.
Good try… :-p
I have to agree that it looks fake.
Absolutely, fake! It is combine of IE7 and MS office 2007 :))
rofl.
They need to practice more Photoshop.
FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like Flint says. Office 07 and used the one the only photoshop!
i cant see any images …
Don’t forget how the active tab on all three shots is “Google”, regardless of what page is displayed. Very amateur job here, anyone who runs a tech blog and posts these pictures as real should be ashamed.
I say it’s fake too. But it would look cool with that layout. It would “blend” better with the new microsoft office.
Why so excited? It’s only IE..
Yeah, definitely fake-looking, but some pretty interesting ideas in there. I kind of like the way that they’ve used the ribbon as a way of distinguishing between the types of things that a user might want to do on the web (although I’d call the first tab “browse” instead of “home”).
wow those are great pics.
Besides… there is no way that Microsoft could get the next version out this fast. Microsoft is not known for pushing software out quickly.
Hehe i see what you mean. Plus microsoft wouldnt make internet explorer look so stupid….
would it?
No way these are real.
Don’t forget the “Google” page title with the google favicon on a page other than google.
that was the first thing i noticed flint….weak
[...Just a few minutes ago I came a cross a Digg post referring to some blogger - link is in Spanish - who claimed have gained access to screen shots of the forthcoming Internet Explorer 8 Alpha version; so I went in for a sneak peak...
Now, even though these are fakes shots they do bring some interesting ideas to the User Experience arena that, if looked from a partial view can take us back to the drawing surface and give us something to play with...]
pingback from Samiq Bits
Fake….
Are you kidding me? This is a horrible fake. The alignment of text is way off.
Sadly, I have to agree. The “Words: 0″ makes it hard to believe. However, even if just as a mockup, I feel like that’d be an AMAZING direction to take IE in.
I, too, noticed what Flint had pointed out. Also, there seems to be some spelling errors–however slight–which allude to a photoshopped image, though a good one at that. In fact, this might be very close to what IE 8 looks like, as it seems like the Vista-fied direction Microsoft would take.
It’s clearly a fake, look at the details, LOL!!
i think it is firefox.u used a theme and looks like that…
:)
That’s really ugly.
2 image can’t display and looks fake
This is very very fake, if you look at the last image. On the menu, Windows is spelled WIndows.. i don’t think microsoft would use the wrong cases when dealing with their own product like that. And you can clearly tell the words were just move there by the quality around areas with words.
FAAAAAAAKE.
lol
a) The tabs don’t change
b) It’s obviosly taken straight from Word 2007 with the word count and all
c) Half of the graphics are ripped from other places (Like activesync instead of refresh)
I’d dare say that MS will use the ribbon idea to some degree though when IE8 does make its first appearance….. But nowhere near as awfully as that hopeless example
IE6 much more better than this..just my sense..
Fake? Damn…I just threw my Mac out the third story window. Anyone here good at fixing computers? deadissue
I don’t believe people like Alex Kerr - Firefox better than explorer! Give me a break you fricken freak - bet you use a mac too!
Hi guys, hope MS and Firefox will thank you for this SURVEY you participate :):):)
Cheers
THIS IS A FAKE. It’s a copy of the style of office 2007 in IE
Ha! Everyone knows the real IE8 Alpha is here: http://www.dlarsen.com/media/external/ie8-alpha.jpg
Only Firefox
Type your comment here.
Real fake
MS Word 2007 + IE7 =>IE8
Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! iginxiwkoqai
It looks like a Microsoft Office 2007 Internet Explorer
definetly fake, office 07 with a badly replaced IE set. tabs dont watch webpages, and where is the address bar?
would be cool to have the ribbon interface though…
thats just microsoft office 2007 plus ie7 thats just NOT WHAT I SEARCHED
If this was an alpha the Interface would probably be the same as IE7. Usually in Alpha builds it’s usually testing a new Engine. They wouldn’t redesign the skin first I’m sure. Also if one looks hard enough on the Security Centre screenshot one can see it’s clearly copied and pasted on.
it definetly looks feake
Ugly and horrible like IE7. DISGUSTING! Everybody knows that the best browser is Firefox!
This is fake….you dummies
Had to switch to Firefox from IE7, as it won’t work properly on eBay. Firefox rocks on eBay and is so much easier to use without the need of waiting after signing-in. What the hell is Microsoft upto? I’ll rephrase that question: what the hell is wrong with Microsoft?
Maybe they should rename their organisation to MicroDaft?
I gave 1 star only.
its a fake! and it made from photoshop look like word 2007.
Why would have a word counter in IE for?
I like this fake, it looks good, but why do a browser need words count? and why titles dont belong to what is seen? at least make good fakes ¬¬
P.D. Firefox sucks
better using opera or IE
you guys alwas bitchin’ about MS product, but you know nobody came up with a better product than office or no other company has been able to a better solution than the MS offering so far for the desktop. Mac look pretty but useless in the business world. Firefox is cool, but really does not make a huge difference. At least MS has created million of job for everyone, and because of all the competition created, we are able to blog today.
oww
totaly fake. this is a good job but not pro.
why do title bars shows google ?
there is another web site link in address bar
i think has some problems that made this fake :S
http://wWw.Alba-Union.TK | do you wana exchange links or banners
is there a mod or theme that uses this look? i tink its looks sooooo coool
For Firefox lovers - http://www.firefoxmyths.com
Fire fox may be a superior browser but please say that after reading this.
One find it written everywhere that firefox is safe and ie is horrible and ie is awful. We accept it without arguing. Thaey say MS is evil and mozilla is not. We accept this as a fact.
Never a question is raised - why firefox is safe, how does it protect us . How MS is evil. Are there any stats to support that. If yes then who collected those stats. What procedure was followed.
No company is there for charity or people welfare. Every one is in buisness for earning. It is stupid to campaign for a some one. Just use what you like. No one need to tell you what is good or what is bad. What is bad will die its own death. I use IE7 today. If tommorow a new version of firefox is released and I found it better, I will start using that.
It’s not Fake. you can get MSIE 8 Beta already from the microsoft website. Why people have to be so narrow minded and start saying it’s fake without finding out the facts?
IE7 is way better than IE6, and as web designer I’m relieved they didn’t make the same mistakes as before. Let’s hope IE8 it’s better.
But my main browser is Firefox, specially for all the tools available for it.
It is all fake!!!! It is photoshop from word 2007
