Performance, compatibility, and reliability have been among the biggest complaints of Windows Vista users, and the service pack will focus on those three major trouble areas. After dancing around the subject for months, Microsoft finally opened up Wednesday and said it will release the first Service Pack for Windows Vista in the first quarter of 2008 with a wider beta version coming in “a few weeks.”
“We’re feeling good about Windows Vista,” said David Zipkin, a Microsoft senior product manager for Windows Client, in an interview. He pointed out that among other metrics, Windows Vista had 12 security issues in its first six months compared with Windows XP’s 36 during its first six months. “At the same time, we are getting notes back that some people are having not so great experiences.”
Microsoft began testing early pre-beta versions of Vista SP1 and XP SP3 earlier this month with approximately 100 testers, but copies of both quickly began appearing online to the chagrin of Zipkin. Some fixes in the leaks will not appear in the final versions of the updates. “I think it’s unfortunate that they were leaked,” he said. “At this point in the game, that kind of information can give misdirection and misinformation to our customers.”

Halo 3 for Xbox 360 has gone Gold! That means we delivered a final version to our internal certification group that passed all the tests and is now being whisked away to top secret manufacturing locations to be turned into retail versions of the game – and eventually packaged and sent to stores in various cases, tins and cat-helmets. We can’t wait to share it with you guys on September 25th and 26th, but we have to say thanks.
We have to say thanks to everyone at Bungie who worked so hard to make this the best game we’ve ever made. We have to say thanks to everyone at Microsoft who helped us make it the best game we ever made. We have to say thanks to our tireless team of artists, designers, engineers, musicians, technicians, writers, directors, producers, thinkers, administrators, ninjas, specialists, gorillas, webmasters and pimps. We’re a family and we made this game for you, our extended family. We hope you like it. Nobody deserves any more recognition than anyone else, but an extra special thanks goes out anyway, to the test team who got it to this stage, in a pool of their own sweat, tears and blood.
And of course, we wouldn’t be here today without the tireless devotion of our fan community - we thank you all as well for supporting Bungie Studios in our never ending quest for World Domination and we look forward to sharing another billion+ hours together on Xbox Live when Halo 3 lands in just a few short weeks. The wait is almost over.
We Finished our Fight. Your fight begins in 27 days.
Are you ready?

Nokia today released the set of photos for it’s upcoming N81 phone.Just take a look at some of the photgraphs we managed to get from the website.

What this device has to pride with most of all is the fact that it manages to pack 8Gb of internal memory. A special version of Nokia N95 is the only other Nokia handset capable of providing this feature, but this phone is also waiting to be released during the GoPlay presentation in London

Another feature that looks to confer some appreciation upon this phone is the special design that makes it perfect for gaming, listening to music and comfortable handling in any situation. The handset will also pack a 2 megapixel camera that will take care of almost all entertainment aspects on this device.
Nokia N81 is meant to be a music phone, one of the many devices that the Finnish producer has decided to launch for covering this line too. The phone’s sizes might sound to be quite large for those people that have grown used to the slim, fragile-looking handsets. At 102 x 50 x 17.9 mm and 140 grams in weight, the mobile phone will not impress anyone with its sizes, although the smooth, polished case surely adds to its good looks.

Logitech has unveiled two new PC headsets - ClearChat Pro USB and ClearChat Comfort.
The Logitech ClearChat Pro USB headset features proprietary laser-tuned audio drivers, an audio equalizer switch and a noise-canceling microphone while the Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset features a padded headband and plush ear pads.

Both the ClearChat Pro and the ClearChat Comfort headsets connect to the PC through the USB port, producing digital audio independent of the quality of the computer’s sound card. The ClearChat Pro USB headset features proprietary laser-tuned audio drivers and the Logitech SoundSwitch equalizer, a headset-based switch that optimizes audio performance for the three most common headset activities: PC-Internet calling, music listening and gaming. The PC calling mode accentuates the human voice. For PC playlists and Internet radio, the music mode provides a well-balanced sound. And the gaming mode enhances gaming audio, increasing the level of realism.

The ClearChat Pro headset features an adjustable noise-canceling microphone with a flexible boom that easily adjusts to the desired distance from the mouth. And as an added convenience, the microphone boom emits a soft, red glow when muted, so users can be confident no one else can hear them speaking. The headset is also equipped with in-line volume and mute controls.
The Logitech ClearChat Pro USB and Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headsets are expected to be available in the U.S. in September and in Europe in October. The ClearChat Pro USB headset will have a suggested retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). The ClearChat Comfort USB headset will have a suggested retail price of $39.99 (U.S.).

Symantec Tuesday unveiled the 2008 editions of its Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security desktop protection products, adding what it calls “threat interceptor” defense to prevent execution of malicious code enabled through a drive-by download.
Used by consumers and small businesses, Norton AntiVirus 2008 and Norton Internet Security, which includes the antivirus capability plus a desktop firewall and host-based intrusion prevention, will now be able to block drive-by downloads from Web sites where visitors with unpatched computers can easily be infected and their machines compromised. Symantec’s 2008 edition security products are designed to run on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista.
“There are multiple infection vectors for drive-by downloads, both Web sites where malicious code is deliberately posted and legitimate Web sites that have been compromised,” noted Ed Kim, director of product management at Symantec’s consumer division.
One striking example of this was the compromise of the Web sites of Dolphin Stadium and the Miami Dolphins in advance of the Super Bowl football game last winter when Web site visitors encountered drive-by downloads intended to take over their desktop machines.
Kim pointed out that unpatched Web browsers aren’t the only means that drive-by downloads exploit to dump malicious code on Web site visitors.
