Microsoft Unveils Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2

Posted by Ankur Mittal 14 October, 2008 (0) Comment

Today, Microsoft Corp. debuted Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2 (R2), an update to the award-winning Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Microsoft representatives demonstrated the new release for the first time before an audience of telecom and IT professionals at the VoiceCon tradeshow in Amsterdam. Customers will be able to purchase the release, currently in private beta testing, beginning in February 2009.

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 delivers important new functionality that extends software-powered voice, particularly for remote and mobile workers; provides on-premise audioconferencing to help reduce operational costs; and introduces new developer advances, including the ability to build communications-enabled business processes. These enhancements will improve business communications through a unified infrastructure and user experience.

“Office Communications Server 2007 R2, debuting just one year after the Microsoft unified communications launch, highlights the pace of innovation that is possible with software,” said Stephen Elop, president of the Microsoft Business Division at Microsoft. “This new release puts Microsoft on a rapid path to deliver voice software that does much more than a network private branch exchange (PBX) and with much less cost.”

Customers worldwide are embracing Microsoft’s unified communications platform, which streamlines communications by combining e-mail, instant messaging, conferencing and voice communications onto a single, unified platform.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Help update 4.2 released in all supported languages

Posted by Ankur Mittal 30 September, 2008 (0) Comment

We’re very pleased to announce the availability of Help update 4.2 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (on-premise) for server, client, and Language Pack installations. Like our previous updates, this update incorporates suggestions from customers and partners submitted through our feedback system, as well as bug fixes and clarifications.

However, we’re especially excited that Help update 4.2 is available in all supported languages. Although we’ve been releasing updates to Help for several years, this is the first Microsoft Dynamics CRM Help update to be released in English and localized versions. Help update 4.2 represents a rollup of all the content in Help update 4.1 (previously available only in English), as well as recent fixes and improvements.

There are five options, depending on your configuration:

  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server update for 32-bit systems
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server update for 64-bit systems
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 for Microsoft Office Outlook with Offline Access update
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Language Pack updates for 32-bit systems (applies to both server and client components)
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Language Pack updates for 64-bit systems

If you’ve enabled multiple languages in your implementation, note that you’ll need to apply the Language Pack update in addition to the server update. You only need to run the Language Pack update once for all languages. For more details, see KB955921.

You can download Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Help update 4.2 from the Microsoft Download Center.

Microsoft Office Outlook Connector version 12.1 Beta 2 now available!

Posted by Ankur Mittal 18 September, 2008 (0) Comment

Microsoft has just released the Beta 2 version of the Outlook Connector – an add-in that puts your Windows Live Hotmail data in Outlook. While Beta 2 does not introduce new features, it provides several improvements aimed at making synchronization with e-mail, contacts, and the free Windows Live Calendar Beta service more robust. If you want to know more about the benefits of connecting to the Windows Live Calendar service, I recommend you read the original Outlook Connector Beta 1 blog post here.

Outlook Connector 12.1 Beta 2 is also available as part of the Windows Live Beta, a collection of free Windows Live services and applications, available here.

In light of some customer feedback we received since Beta 1 was released, it is worth noting that the Outlook Connector 12.0 and the Outlook Connector 12.1 synchronize calendar data against two separate calendaring services.

  • Outlook Connector 12.0 synchronizes with the MSN Calendaring service (a MSN Premium service only).
  • Outlook Connector 12.1 synchronizes with the free Windows Live Calendar service.

Download 2007 Office System SDK: Open XML Format SDK 2.0

Posted by Ankur Mittal 6 September, 2008 (0) Comment

Open XML is an open ECMA 376 standard and is also approved as the ISO/IEC 29500 standard that defines a set of XML schemas for representing spreadsheets, charts, presentations, and word processing documents. Microsoft Office Word® 2007, Microsoft Office Excel® 2007, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 2007 all use Open XML as the default file format.
The Open XML file formats are useful for developers because they use an open standard and are based on well-known technologies: ZIP and XML.
The Open XML Format SDK 2.0 is built on top of the System.IO.Packaging API and provides strongly typed part classes to manipulate Open XML documents. The SDK also uses the .NET Framework Language-Integrated Query (LINQ) technology to provide strongly typed object access to the XML content inside the parts of Open XML documents.

One Million Strong Collaborating Online With Microsoft Office Live Workspace Beta

Posted by Ankur Mittal 4 September, 2008 (0) Comment

Microsoft Corp. today announced that only six months after public availability, the beta release of Microsoft Office Live Workspace has reached the 1-million-customer sign-up milestone.

Office Live Workspace beta (http://workspace.officelive.com) is the free, Web-based extension of Microsoft Office that lets people access their documents online and share their work with others. The Workspace beta was among the first entries in the new wave of online services that embody Microsoft’s software-plus-services vision previewed last fall. In just six months, it has achieved significant interest from consumers, schools and universities globally, and has added 11 languages and 20 new features such as multi-file upload, activity panels and improved Firefox support.

“The pace at which people are signing up for the beta tells us that they are looking for ways to resolve the complexities of their work, school and home projects through a range of choices,” said Kirk Gregersen, director of consumer and small-business product management for Microsoft Office. “It takes companies years to attract a strong customer base such as this. We’re excited about Office Live Workspace growth and innovation yet to come.”
